“Turn My TV On”: Look Mama! Black Folk On TV!!!

In case you’ve been under a rock, like myself obviously, I wanted to share the link to the trailer for the upcoming television premiere of the Broadway production of “A Raisin in the Sun.”

Although they said Puffy…Diddy…Piddy…whatever was really good in this and took the part seriously, I just don’t buy him as “Walter.” If you read the original play, you could feel Walter’s desperation in Lorraine Hansberry’s words. If you watched the production with Sidney Portier, you were spent by the end. In my opinion, Diddy can’t pull off desperate. Watching the trailer doesn’t change my mind about that. He looked too crisp…too clean-cut to me. That’s just his swagger I suppose. He can’t take that off.  We’ll see if I change my mind about this.

I’ll certainly be tuned in on February 25th, as I always do when Black folk are on television not shaking their asses or otherwise cutting the fool.

  1. I got goosebumps watching the trailer, and I’m excited to watch the movie when it airs. It looked like it was going to be really good, and Piddy seemed believable to me. Its kinda nice to see him not being a pompous a$$ for a change, lol.

I cant wait for this. I wanted to see it when it was on broadway so bad and never got around to it. So glad ABC decided to pick it up

  3. I may tune in to see if this works. Maybe piddy can pull it out but I just can’t help but see Sidney P. when I think Raisin in the sun, but hey you never know…

I had to watched the trailer twice. Couldn’t click rewind on Sanaa’s scenes.

Diddy ‘s acting was too bad though, Vivrant.

I read this book back in ’97 so, of course, I cannot wait for 2/25 to arrive so i can watch this presentation with great actors like Rashad and *our babygirl* Sanaa. lol.

Yea, I got goosebumps too. Just seeing that book come to life is exciting for me.

I’ll reserve my hateration and holleration of Diddy for after the premiere, if he’s deserving. I’ll give him props if he is good.

For now, I’m just always glad to see these classics brought to national television. Like I loved Their Eyes Were Watching God….and not just because of that sexy piece of man candy, Micheal Ealy either! *ahem*

Thanks for letting me know about this…I didn’t know it was coming to TV. I can’t wait! I need to go ahead and set my tivo now so I don’t forget and miss it.

  7. I look forward to watching this movie and discussing it with others. I recall seeing the play with a different cast.
