Ever wonder what music is in rotation on some of your favorite artists’ iPods?
Ever think about hanging out with your favorite artist one evening and having them play DJ? What songs would be on the playlist?
The other night on Twitter, Erykah Badu left the building and “DJ Loretta Brown” got on the wheels of steel and turned Twitterverse into one big old school party. Some of these songs I wasn’t even familiar with, which made it even better.
The impromptu house party led to a new musical discovery.
Mama’s Gun just may be my favorite Badu album. Still debating on that one. I do know that that the Grammy-nominated song “Didn’t Cha Know” was a highlight on that album for me. What I didn’t know was that it sampled “Dreamflower” by the band Tarika Blue from their self-titled album released in 1977.
Listening to the original track and some other tracks on the album, make it a must purchase. All thanks to “DJ Loretta.”

Im definitely behind on the ‘social networking’ front … never used Twitter and not on Facebook either!
I cannot wait for some new Ms Badu! NA pt.2 is my most anticipated album this year (closely followed by CM & D’Angelo).
As for the songs, I’m at work so cannot listen right now. However, ‘Stay’ by Chaka Khan is a classic and I loved EB’s cover on her ‘Live’ album.

@squarerootz Just threw up You Tube links. You think I just went out there and searched for all of these?! LOL! Putting this together took me long enough. It was HOT as you could see. I wasn’t on live but I caught up at the tail end. And this is why I’m a Twitterholic.
She was on FYAH. I know I learned some thangs that night. There were quite a few tracks I didn’t know and quite a few I haven’t heard in a long time (Denice Williams – “Cause You Love Me Baby?” Say whaaa?). I also concur regarding your comments on “Didn’t Cha Know.”
People who are sleeping on Twitter, need to sip some of that good stuff and come join the fun. 🙂
Gotta admit, I’m not on any social platform. That’s right, no Twitter, MySpace or Facebook.
Looking over those songs though, they are choice. SOS Band’s “Just Be Good To Me” was my song for a good part of my senior year of high school (yeah, I know I’m dating myself). I could make comments on just about all of those songs. Too bad I missed the party.
