Oh there are so many places I could have gone with this. My first thought was to feature my favorite rapper ever, Biggie. I still miss that dude. What would the game have looked like today had he and Pac lived? Still pisses me off. Just senseless.
Anyway, I decided to dig in my own video archives over at my You Tube channel and feature my favorite female rapper MC Lyte and none other than the Smooth Operator, Big Daddy Kane. I was blessed to catch them on the 2007 Hip Hop Honors Tour. They were both honorees last year.
Big Daddy Kane, Smooth Operator
Big Daddy Kane and Scoob Luver get busy
I knew every word to every MC Lyte song…still do actually. She is one of the illest to ever touch the mic. And I’m mad she doesn’t look much older than she did then!
Check her out performing “Cha Cha Cha.” She’s the dopest female that you heard thus far!
I’m excited to say I’ll be seeing them again next month at this tour.
I got my doorknockers on order as we speak!
To hold me over, I’ll be painting the town pink and green with my Sorors at another True School Party tonight where one of my favorite producers 9th Wonder and DJ Dris (otherwise known as Idris Elba) will be on the wheels of steel. I already told you how True School gets down so if you’re local, this is not to be missed. Wouldn’t steer you wrong.
As always, check out the other OSF participants. If you’ve never done that, today would be the day for all you old school hip hop fans.

i remember that video @ the hip hop honors.
that was the ish when Kane did the old school dance.
BDK! I loved him with his smooth self. I remember trying to get down that part when he says “The B-I-G-D-A-Double D-Y-K-A-N-E”. I could not get that straight to save my life. LOL
Did you see the VH1 special when they honored hip hop and he showed that he could still do a flip during his dance? I was like get-get-get it!! LOL
That’s good stuff right there. I’m so glad to see Lyte getting the love she deserves. I remember the first time I saw her video “Paper Thin” I was hooked. Love her.
What can I say about Kane? I peeped Kane in Biz’s video for “The Vapor’s” and damn he was some chocolate fine-ness. Incredible Emcee w/great flow and lyrics.
I feel like I’m back on Canal Street shopping for dookey chains and bamboo earrings.
My momma loved her some Big Daddy Kane, and I love me some MCLyte. This theme was hard because there are so many songs I love. Culturally, I could have played a lot of songs from the South that will set it off in Texas, but I chose something with a more universal appeal.
you knocked it out the park with your picks!!
I had the biggest crush on bIG DADDY KANE back in the day. And L – Y – T – E was my girl!
Have a good weekend!!
BDK was it back in the day…with his chocolate self…
There are no other words that can be said for Lyte…she is and will always be a force…
Have fun!
Happy OSF!
@shae shae- LMAO! I couldn’t get that either as hard as I tried! that’s skillzzzz!
and girl, that was the highlight of the whole show. And he was about 20lbs or so heavier and still getting it!
